The history of women’s golf at The Brisbane Golf Club is deeply woven into the Club’s development. Women were involved from the earliest years, with lady members admitted in 1897 and women’s competition golf established by 1898. Although their participation was initially shaped by restrictions on membership status, facilities and playing times, women steadily built a strong golfing culture through competition, leadership and advocacy.

Early pioneers such as Julia Eden and Dot Hood set enduring standards of excellence, while later figures including Joan Fletcher drove important reforms in playing access and dress regulations. Across the twentieth century, women at the Club not only achieved remarkable success in championships and representative golf, they also helped shape broader golf administration in Queensland.

From the fairways of Chelmer to leadership in the boardroom, the women of The Brisbane Golf Club have played a defining role in the Club’s history and future.
