Nineteen-year old, Lisa Edgar has won the 2018 Ladies Club Championship at The Brisbane Golf Club.
This year’s championship was played over four rounds and Lisa played her best golf in the final round shooting a 69, which included five birdies, around the tough Championship layout.
Amazingly this was Lisa’s first ever appearance in a Club Championship at any golf club and it’s hard to imagine a more perfect debut. With scores of 79, 80, 75 and 69 her four-round total of 303 created a winning margin of 27 shots.
Lisa is regarded as one of Queensland’s most talented amateur players and represented her State in May at the Australian Interstate Teams Matches. She is also a member of the Queensland Academy of Sport which trains at BGC. Her handicap is +1.
This is the second major success at BGC for Lisa since becoming a Member earlier this year. Lisa played number two in our BDLGA Gold 1 winning pennant’s team. She was undefeated in the five matches she played.
It’s the second consecutive year a teenager has been crowned Club Champion at BGC after sixteen-year old Isabelle Simpson won in 2017. Isabelle was unable to defend her title due to school commitments.
The first Ladies Club Championships were played at BGC in 1901 so with such a rich history it’s wonderful to see two young Champions in recent years.
The runner up in the 2018 Ladies Club Championship was Kathryn Hillier with scores of 87, 82, 82, and 79 for a total of 330 who won on countback from Emily Byrne who recorded scores of 81, 86, 81 and 82. Emily won the A Grade Nett.
Kerrie O’Callaghan won the B Grade Gross whilst Julie Brown won the B Grade Nett.
In C Grade, Pip Holmes won the Gross whilst Alison Dignan won the Nett on countback from Vivienne Cassidy.
