A golfer with vast experience across the playing, coaching and club-fitting areas of the sport has been added to the already first-class team of Teaching Professionals at The Brisbane Golf Club.

Kiwi Ben Williams, whose most recent appointments were at Brookwater and Indooroopilly Golf Clubs, joins the expert team of Lee Eagleton, Asha Hargreaves and Reece McRae, which is headed up by Director of Golf, Joe Janison.

“We are really excited to have Ben join our team. He brings a vast amount of experiences across all the vital areas of the game, and I know this experience will be a great asset to the BGC membership,” said Mr Janison.

“Ben’s appointment adds further strength to our stable of highly-regarded teaching professionals.”

A Certified Member of the PGA of Australia, Ben was born in New Zealand and completed his NZPGA traineeship at Royal Auckland and The Grange Golf Club, where he coached for two years and then played professionally through New Zealand until moving to Melbourne in 2013.

While playing through Asia on the MENA Tour (throughout Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the UAE) as well as the PGA Tour of Australasia, Ben based himself at Capital Golf Club in Melbourne and specialised his coaching on VIP clients, including some of China’s ‘rich and famous’.

Three years ago, he moved to Indooroopilly, working in both Golf Operations as well as coaching, with a major focus on juniors, Women’s and private tuition, while also providing club fitting expertise to members, and then had s six-month stint at Brookwater. He joined the BGC team in September this year, and as well as his other duties will be working in the Golf Shop for up to 30 hours per week.

With a best round of 61 at Whenuapai (RNZAF) Golf Club, New Zealand, Ben uses Trackman and Foresight technologies (GC Quad and GC3) to assist in coaching and club-fitting.

When he initially joined BGC, Ben was oblivious to the fact the club was steeped in such history.

“On my first visit I was made aware the club was formed on November 4, which is my birthday, so I felt that maybe fate was intervening,” he revealed.

“But as soon as I sat down and had a chat with Joe (Janison) and Geoff (CEO, Geoff Kuehner), I had this immediate feeling this is where I want to spend a long, long time.

“It feels great here, and the people in charge, as well as the staff, seem really in touch with what is happening, and where the club is going. The vibe is terrific.” – TONY DURKIN
