The Brisbane Golf Club, in its 125th Anniversary Year, will host the 2021 Brisbane Junior Amateur Championships for boys and girls this Thursday and Friday.
The event which will feature both junior boys and girls for the first time will be presented by both the Brisbane District Golf Association and the Brisbane Ladies District Golf Association.
A field of 128 players will tee it up at BGC and will include some of the best golfers under the age of 18 including 8 of BGC’s very own juniors. It will be the first time the event will be played over two days and 36 holes.
Campbell Kerr, the Club’s 2021 Junior Club Champion, has entered and the 16 year old will be hoping his local knowledge will help him finish high up on the leaderboard. He will be joined by Chris Somerfield who earlier this year qualified for the Queensland Open at Pelican Waters Golf Club and only missed the cut by one shot. Both players are expected to play pennants for the Club this year.
18 year old, Aspen Sugars is the sole BGC Member to be playing in the girls event. Aspen was the number one qualifier at the Club’s recent Ladies’ Club Championship.
BGC is excited to see both the boys and girls winners from last weekend’s Queensland Junior Amateur playing in the tournament. Billy Dowling, from Surfers Paradise Golf Club, won the boys Queensland Junior Amateur last weekend by nine shots at 20 under par. Equally, Haruhi Nakatami, also from Surfers Paradise Golf Club won her title by one shot at 10 under. Both will certainly be ones to watch.
Other BGC Members in the field include Pratyush Bharadwaj, Harvey Palmer, Dylan Jones, Jackson Miller and Aahan Anand.
Members of BGC are encouraged to come out and support our BGC representatives and also the future stars of Australian golf. While the field is mostly local it also includes golfers from Melbourne and Perth.
Round 1 will be played on Thursday, 8 July from 12.30pm and Round 2 will be played on Friday, 9 July from 7.30am. The course will be open for Members on Thursday morning and Friday afternoon. Click here to see the draw.
