Round 5 – Team Announcement

The Brisbane Golf Club has named its team for its ‘grand final’ this Sunday at home versus Keperra Golf Club.

KGC and BGC are currently sitting first and second respectively on the table. A BGC win this week, by a margin of greater than 3.5 games, would see them win the BDGA Division 1 Pennant for the first time since World War II and complete an absolute fairytale.

As previously mentioned BGC won the Division 3 Pennant in 2015 and the Division 2 Pennant in 2016.

KGC is the defending Champion and easily accommodated for BGC in Round 2 by 14.5 to 6.5, however, at home BGC is undefeated and a tough match is expected.

Members are encouraged to come out and support the team from 7am on Sunday, 27 August 2017 and be part of one of the biggest Pennant matches in the 121-year old history of BGC. The Juniors and Masters hit off from the 10th tee from 7am whilst the Opens tee off from the 1st tee from 7am.

The Juniors that played KGC at home were missing our Junior Champion and Runner-Up in Sam Slater and Ben Stieler along with Bailey Ittensohn. All three will be back this Sunday and will be joined by Dylan Barraclough and Jordan Hampson.

If successful over KGC this Sunday our Juniors will also secure the Junior Pennant which would be a wonderful achievement for them individually but also a wonderful reflection of the strength and depth of our Junior program which features over 90 golfers. Our Juniors team is Dylan Barraclough, Jordan Hampson, Bailey Ittensohn, Sam Slater and Ben Stieler. Our reserve is Matthew Van Eden.

Our Masters team secured the Masters Pennants for the fourth time in four years by defeating Oxley Golf Club in Round 5 and will be looking for another dominant performance this weekend. Our Masters are undefeated this season but their toughest test to date was against the Masters from KGC, which they won 3-2.

Our Masters team is Gary Brodie, Stephen Deane, Brett Kinninmont, Warwick Oxenford and Nick Woodley. Our reserves are Rick Davenport and Rob Tathem.

The Opens have been dominant at home this year defeating Nudgee Golf Club 8-3 and Oxley Golf Club 8.5-2.5 and they will need to continue that form against KGC. They will be led by our Club Champion, Lawry Flynn.

Our Opens team is Scott Bretherton, Jacob Clarke, Lewis Clelland, Stephen Cox, Kurt Carlson, Eugene Estella, Lawry Flynn, Jordan Lett, Tim Lukin, Joel Negline and Ilija Soldan. Our reserves are Thomas Deane and Simon Dougan-Jones.

The match on the weekend could be the last for our Captain, Stephen Deane who has been playing Pennants for BGC since 1980. Once again it would be wonderful to see as many Members as possible supporting our team and in particular Stephen this Sunday.

Live score updates will again be provided on Facebook.
