The Brisbane Golf Club will start its 2026 BDGA Division 1 Pennant campaign on Sunday, 12 July, the Club’s tenth consecutive year in Queensland’s premier pennant competition.

While BGC has enjoyed a sustained period of success in recent seasons, the 2026 campaign presents the fresh challenge of winning a fifth consecutive Division 1 title, which we understand is unprecedented in the competition’s history.

The departure of six players from last year’s Open team means the Club will look to a blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent this year.

Following the conclusion of the 2025 season, recent Club Champions Lachie Jones (2025), George Giblett (2024) and Taj Egea (2025), along with Billy Dowling, Sam Howse, Josh Liston and Isaac Rahmani, have all either turned professional or are progressing through the PGA Membership Pathway Program. Their contributions to The Brisbane Golf Club have been significant and they will be missed.

As always, the Division 1 competition promises to be fiercely contested. Joining BGC this season are Keperra Golf & Country Club, Pacific Golf Club and Royal Queensland Golf Club, three outstanding clubs with proud pennant traditions.

Keperra returns to Division 1 after an exceptional 2025 Division 2 campaign, finishing undefeated and accumulating an impressive 89.5 points across six rounds to earn promotion. Pacific, the last club to achieve three consecutive Division 1 titles, consistently fields one of the strongest teams in the competition and is always difficult to beat, particularly on its home course. Royal Queensland will also be determined to challenge strongly and will no doubt assemble a talented squad capable of competing of winning their first title in some time.

The Brisbane Golf Club opens its season away against Royal Queensland on Sunday, 12 July before returning home to face Pacific Golf Club the following week. Home-and-away matches will continue over the ensuing five weeks, culminating with a home fixture against Keperra on Sunday, 16 August.

The Club’s Junior team again boasts exciting young talent and could feature three semi-finalists from the 2026 Club Championships – Aahan Anand, Tony Cho and new member Hennessy De Guzman, a Queensland Junior Team representative. Chase Oberle could also feature in the Juniors or Opens should his schedule permit, with the talented young golfer currently competing in several high-profile amateur events in the United Kingdom before commencing his collegiate career at the University of Notre Dame in the United States.

The Open team will begin a new chapter in 2026 and could draw on the experience of long-serving squad members Ben Stieler, Craig Mahon, Tom Deane and Ilija Soldan just to name a few. The Opens will also welcome back former collegiate players Elijah Rohas-Smith, Campbell Kerr, Shane Sweeney and Chris Somerfield with all four expected to be available for selection.

The Masters side has also been strengthened with the addition of Bob Ogilvy from Gailes Golf Club. Bob brings extensive Senior Teams Challenge and pennant experience and joins a seasoned group including Stephen Deane, Eugene Estella, Peter Hargreaves, Ash Sturmer, Ian Burgess and Phil Somerfield.

Men’s Captain Dean Castrisos said the Club was looking forward to another highly competitive season.

“Every year presents a new challenge and this season is certainly no different,” Castrisos said.

“We have experienced some memorable success over recent years, but that counts for very little once the first tee shot is struck in July.”

“All four clubs have the quality to contend for the title and we expect one of the closest and most competitive Division 1 seasons in recent memory. We wish Keperra, Pacific and Royal Queensland every success and look forward to an outstanding competition.”

Members unable to attend matches in person will still be able to follow all the action throughout the season. Team announcements will be published each Thursday in Member News, match reviews will be available every Sunday and player profiles will be featured on the Club’s Instagram page.

Thanks to BGC member Geoff Crozier, live scoring will also be available for every home match. To see the live scoring go to the Club App and under Golf Services click on the live scoring icon.
